The findings of two years' research by Solid Energy New Zealand into bolt gloving have highlighted quality issues within the industry. A paper presented at the recent Coal 2004 conference showed poor resin mixing and gloving of the resin cartridge to be present at all five of the Solid Energy mines investigated.

Article 2: Evaluating pre-tensioned tendons
A remarkable turnaround at UK Coal’s Harworth colliery has been attributed to the use of resin anchored, pre-tensioned grouted tendons in place of previously used passive support. From in-cycle up front development, through remedial support, to specialist applications such as tailgate crib and lifting, the tensioned tendon concept has proven its worth.
