According to the Associated Press, the protest is the second for Romanian coal miners within a month.
The miners reportedly refused to go down the mines on Monday, instead gathering at a state-owned company’s headquarters in the city of Petrosani.
They called on the company to adhere to an agreement signed in January which gave them a 10% wage increase.
The coal company is believed to employ 7800 people spanning across seven of its mines.
Romania may terminate 3300 mining employees from their jobs by 2018 as part of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund to close uncompetitive mines, reported AP.
