Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training spokeswoman Leslie Fitzwater told ILN an employee for a subcontractor of Mammoth Coal in Fayette County was hauling coal from the complex’s Alloy Powellton operation when the 4pm accident occurred.

The driver’s name has not been released.

Local newspaper the Charleston Daily Mail reported the victim was trapped inside the truck for more than an hour.

It said late Wednesday the driver received severe injuries and was sent to Charleston Area Medical Center, though Fitzwater did not have an update on his condition Thursday afternoon.

A state mining office investigation has commenced.

An Alpha spokesman did not respond to an ILN request for comment or details.
