Renewal of the Sese West prospecting licence will allow the explorer to follow up on six drill holes at the site and target an additional 3-6 billion tonnes of coal.
Sese West is immediately south of the main 2.5Bt Sese deposit.
The company discovered coal on the expansion licence in June 2011 while testing weak uranium anomalism.
According to the company’s visual observation and down-hole geophysical logging, the coal is said to be of similar quality to that in the Sese deposit.
There is a minimum and maximum seam thickness of 7m and 19m, with an average seam thickness of 14m for the whole deposit.
African Energy said it planned to start an initial infill drilling program to an estimated drill spacing of 4km for Sese West in the coming months.
The availability of a rig has been established and the drilling is due for completion prior to the end of the year.
