Governor Earl Ray Tomblin named White to the post Monday citing his service with the agency since 2001 and varied experience in the industry.
“Eugene, a former coal miner, has served the public for many years in the OMHS&T,” Tomblin said.
“He has made important contributions to mine safety as the deputy director. He has also been an intergral part of the state’s mine emergency team.
“Eugene has the respect and support of our miners and our companies. He will do a great job.”
White replaces Cecil Phillips – known throughout the industry as CA – who tendered his resignations to Tomblin effective from December 31.
