A step back in time

Entitled “The History of Mine Rescue”, the exhibit in Beaver on the Academy campus is a pictorial time capsule encompassing the early 1900s through the present day.

It depicts mine rescue traditions developed more than a century ago and shows improvements over the years that have significantly enhanced safety and health.

Academy superintendent Janet Bertinuson said that recent visitors had very positive feedback.

“Our hope is that the online version of the display will reach many more people throughout the country who know little about mine rescue," she said.

“The History of Mine Rescue" exhibit will be on display through August 9 and can be viewed online at http://www.msha.gov/training/library/historyofminerescue/historyofminerescue.asp.
