A wholly Australian developed and owned technology, the Ecoflex solution converts waste tyres into durable building products that are technically and ecologically effective, with sustainable environmental benefits.
The Ecoflex system has been introduced with outstanding success to underground mines roads in the Hunter Valley. The wet, soft sub-grades present in mines are susceptible to degradation under heavy equipment and relocation of longwall equipment. In this instance, the Ecoflex system provides a cost-effective means of road repair.
The system was conceived in 1998 and has undergone rigorous testing in the lead-up to national and international expansion through the sale of licensing systems.
Ecoflex Australia founder and managing director, Garry Callinan, says the system has already been proven in New South Wales and he is confident it will be adopted across Australia.
“Australia produces around 18 million tyres each year and the majority of those are sent to landfill which represents a substantial cost to the community and a waste of a valuable resource. A significant proportion are illegally dumped, creating stockpiles that represent an infestation and fire hazard,” Callinan said.
Callinan said the company had developed systems and engineering solutions that use the strength of tyres to make durable, flexible building products that can be easily manufactured and installed.
“The key to our technology has been to develop and test our products on a fully engineered basis so that our clients can be confident that our products will do the job as well as, or better than, traditional engineering systems,” he added.
