It plans to drill, weather permitting, up to 2000 metres to confirm the continuity and orientation of the coal seams on its permits PL 7051/2011 and PL 7048/2011.
The coal outcrop is on the northern margin of the basin adjacent to the Precambrian basement.
The seam dips about 20 degrees to the south toward the center of the basin.
Field mapping of the stratigraphy to the south indicates a shallow dip of 5-10 degrees to the north. The coal seam is interpreted to follow this trend.
At least, that is what Select hopes the drilling will prove.
The outcrop is within a sequence of carbonaceous mudstone and interbedded sandstone. It is interpreted to lie in the same stratigraphic position as the adjacent Ngaka mine and Katewakea/Mchuchuma coal occurrences within the same basin.
A trenching program has been completed and samples have been dispatched for analysis. Results are expected within weeks.
