A recent design review and upgrade was conducted on the Auto Autolink Shunt Diode Safety Barrier Card. This purpose was to ensure that the Auto Autolink barrier is fully compliant with the latest Australian Communications Authority A-Tick standard.

The barrier card is a necessary part of this Australian-made Intrinsically Safe Telephone System. The system is approved to the Australian Communications Authority A-Tick standard, which means it can be legally connected to the public telephone network and it also carries full current explosion protection approvals for use in all hazardous areas. It is rated Ex i a I/IIC, suitable for general industry as well as mining applications.

As a result of the design upgrade to the Auto Autolink barrier units a substantial increase in voice volume was achieved. During recent field trials it was found that the hazardous area telephones now boast similar voice performance to that of a standard office phone even when used at distances exceeding 7000m from the barrier, the company said.

The Ampcontrol IS Phone system has an operational range of over 10,000 metres in Group I locations and in excess of 1,000 metres in Group II locations depending on the gas group.

A further enhancement of performance in noisy environments can be achieved by the fitting of the Press To Talk (PTT) or Mute (PTL) buttons to the handsets on the actual telephones. Ampcontrol said existing users could upgrade their systems to include these options.
