Norilsk nickel sales up 50%

NORILSK Nickel reported that it had lifted total nickel exports by 50% in the six months to July, while copper exports rose by 12%.

The Russian metals giant also reported it had signed a new palladium supply contract with China and South Korea.

Norilsk deputy chief executive Maxim Finsky told Reuters that his company exported 175,235 tonnes of nickel in the first seven months of 2003, up from 117,199 tonnes in the same period of 2002.

Total copper sales rose from 230,411t to 258,138t.
