The event, to be held at the MTTC’s 40,000 simulated coal mine, is scheduled for April 22-25.
The first day of the event will involve registration, and the competition will primarily be held on the second and third days. An awards ceremony will be held on the 25th.
Teams will compete in a mine rescue problem, live burn, hose management, smoke maze, bench contest, written test, first aid and gas testing.
The Sim mine, as it is known, has been designed with six entries and seven crosscuts along with two moveable overcasts and an exhaust ventilation fan, making for various setup designs.
The facility is also equipped with a state-of-the-art propane burn tunnel capable of producing 1.4 million BTU, and other firefighting equipment includes a vehicle designed to simulate an underground personal carrier capable of burning in five different locations, and a concrete firefighting pad designed for hose management.
The MTTC facility also has a four-entry and five-crosscut smoke maze, which is also equipped with an exhaust fan.
“Our MSHA certified instructors also use our smoke maze to train new inexperienced miners, teaching basic mine laborer type duties including building cribs, setting posts, following a lifeline in smoke, along with extensive classroom study,” organizers said, adding that it has a diesel lab equipped with a Deutz BF4L 2011engine.
Finally, the facility has a fully equipped staging area with an oxygen pump station, wash basins for cleaning apparatus, two dryers, benching tables and a freezer for storing ice.
Those interested in registering to compete should contact the MTTC.
