Blacksville’s 121 day crew miners were evacuated on March 13 after smoke was seen coming from the shaft of the mine in Wayne, near the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border.
The fire has idled 650 workers and shut down the complex for more than two weeks.
The first two advance teams entered the mine on Wednesday, established electrical power and made some repairs.
Six advance teams are rotating shifts to continue round-the-clock assessment.
“Since entering the mine, gas levels have remained steady and consistent [carbon monoxide] readings confirm that the fire is extinguished,” Consol said in a statement Saturday.
“Consol’s team remains onsite around the clock to continue monitoring gas levels and to oversee the situation.
“It is still unknown when Blacksville No 2 mine will resume production.”
Mine Safety and Health Administration granted Consol permission to re-enter the mine last week.
"I am extremely proud of the successful collaborative effort from federal and state agencies, the [United Mine Workers of America], contractors/vendors and our employees onsite who worked around the clock to remotely extinguish a fire in less than 12 days,” Consol Energy senior vice-president Chuck Shaynak said.
“Without their efforts, we would not be where we are today.
“Most importantly, we accomplished all of the work without an injury."
