At the completion of the program, NCR intends to secure an international company to finish a drilling program according to the SGS plan.
SGS will subsequently test the core samples at its Barranquilla laboratory for New Colombia and provide drill hole database management for the property. It will also include a topographic survey and geological mapping for the miner.
The results, NCR said, would allow it to later complete and submit its environmental impact study as it moved the project to fruition.
“We are aggressively moving forward to get into production as soon as possible," president John Campo said, though no timelines were provided.
NCR owns 100% of the La Tabaquera complex, which has an estimated 15 to 17 million tonnes of reserves, 70% metallurgical and 30% thermal coal.
It is also exploring allegiances with US and Colombian universities to study capturing coal bed methane in Colombia.
