The competition, held June 4-6 at the Jerry L Stewart Ohio Mine Safety Training Center in Harrison County, wrapped with Consol’s Enlow Fork Green crew taking first place in the main mine rescue division.
Second place went to Pinnacle Mining, and Arch’s Beckley Gold team took third place.
In pre-shift a Consol group again earned top prize, this time Bailey Blue. Second place was another Consol group, McElroy Blue, and Cumberland Coal’s JC team was third.
In first aid, Arch’s Mingo Logan Mountain Laurel Gold was tops among the tem competitors. Consol Energy’s Blacksville No 2 and Cumberland Coal’s JC were second and third, respectively.
Four were pegged against each other in Bench Biopak 240R, and Roy Smith from Arch Coal’s Beckley Gold team was first. Another Beckley Gold member, Mike Kincaid, was second and Bradley Shoulders from Wolf Run Mining’s White group was third.
Randy Clark from McElroy Blue was first in the Bench BG4 division. Blacksville No. 2’s Kevin Bee and Joy Hammrick from Jim Walter Mine No. 4 were second and third, respectively.
Finally, in combination results, Arch’s Mountain Laurel Gold team was the winner, followed by Consol’s Enlow Fork Green crew and the members of Cumberland Coal’s RD team in second and third.
In all, 34 teams competed from Alliance Coal, Alpha Natural Resources, American Energy, Arch Coal, Cliffs, Consol, Gatling, Hopedale Mining, Ohio Valley Coal, Rosebud Mining, Sterling Mining and Walter Energy.
They represented states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Alabama.
Officials from the US Department of Labor, West Virginia Office of Miners Health, Safety and Training, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and ODNR Division of Mineral Resources Management served as judges.
