It was awarded by Corredor Do Desenvolvimento Do Norte, a joint venture between Vale Mozambique and Mozambique’s Port and Railways authority.
The contract value has not been disclosed.
Works will include project management of rail construction including contract administration and engineering, carried out by the WorleyParsons Mozambique and WorleyParsons South Africa teams.
The company has also been selected by Corredor Logistico Integrado de Nacala to carry out the design of rail facilities and maintenance of the complex at Nacala.
The Nacala rail corridor runs for about 584km and links Vale’s Moatize mine to the Port of Nacala.
Once it is set up, the rail line will be able to transport about 18 million tonnes of coal per year.
