Consol confirmed in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing that the order from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration was issued on July 29 at the Robinson Run mine in Mannington, Marion County.
“The order described an ignition that occurred during cutting operations related to maintenance on the longwall,” the company said, though no further details about the condition were provided.
No injuries were reported from the ignition.
The producer did not indicate the specific actions taken following the incident but said the MSHA order was subsequently abated.
In May, another of Consol’s large longwall complexes, Bailey, received an imminent danger order for an accumulation of methane at a seal.
That order was issued on May 8.
At the time Consol spokeswoman Lynn Seay told ILN that the area at the West Finley, Pennsylvania operation was re-ventilated and the order abated within one hour.
Imminent danger orders are issued by MSHA under section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act, also known as the Mine Act.
Consol’s Robinson Run mine, which operates a single longwall and continuous miners to extract from the Pittsburgh 8 seam, produced about 5.5 million tons of steam coal last year.
