The new Link-2 browser-based Roof Convergence Monitoring System can capture, log and display data transmitted from remote GEL extensometers (connected to a Dupline ® 2 wire transmission system), correlate it with existing operational information, and produce an accurate report within seconds.

The remote extensometers are connected via a twisted pair cable running over 10km transmitting the GEL extensometer readings to a Link-2 surface computer interface. Utilising the Dupline ® 2 wire transmission allows control from the Link-2 system to operate remote field devices such as opening and closing ventilation doors from the surface computer and the facility for trending, logging, and alarming of underground roof activity.

Some of the production report options include:

- Recall and filtration of alarms

- Recall and filtration of readings

- Trend readings

- Alarm when a sensor becomes faulty or appears to be missing for a preset period of time

- Ability to set user configurable trigger points

- Automatic email notification to relevant persons in the event of an alarm

- Automatic end of shift/week/month/year report generated

The system, which can be adapted into an existing mine site is set to be installed at a Central Queensland site in the coming months.

The Roof Convergence Monitoring system complements i.Power Solutions’ successful Link-2 Gas Monitoring System. Utilising Internet Explorer, Link-2 Gas allows underground coal miners to capture, log and display vital gas monitoring data. Link-2 Gas enables users to access information from the company’s LAN from any PC without the need to install software.
