Westmoreland has been a member of the Montana business community since the early 1970s.
It owns and operates three mines in the state that employ about 500 workers and produce 15 million tons of coal annually.
President and chief operating officer Robert King said the office was close to its operations.
Westmoreland Coal is the oldest independent coal company in the US.
Its holdings include coal in the Powder River Basin in Montana, sub-bituminous mining in Wyoming and lignite mining in Montana, North Dakota and Texas.
