Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) advised the South Africa-based company that 10 wagons were derailed on February 18, suspending traffic between Komatipoort and Maputo for at least seven weeks.

Attempts to establish alternative routes have been unsuccessful.

Production at Coal of Africa’s Mooiplaats and Woestalleen projects will continue until stockpiles are exhausted.

The existing stockpiles at the Vele project are at full capacity, forcing a temporary suspension.

Vele Colliery’s essential services will continue. A buffer contingency plan has been initiated so production can restart within 24 hours once TFR resumes operations.

Coal of Africa said subsidiaries Limpopo Coal, Langcarel and NuCoal Mining had also issued force majeure notices.
