The event, held at Dominion’s Brayton Point Power Station near Somerset, attracted about 400 from across the New England states.
Many marched at the protest, which was organized by 350.org Massachusetts, carrying models of windmills and solar panels and wearing red shirts showing they were willing to risk being arrested, according to the Associated Press.
No injuries were reported at the demonstration or during the arrests, and officials noted that those apprehended worked with police.
Virginia-based Dominion announced in March that Brayton Point was among the properties it would sell to private equity firm Energy Capital Partners.
The 1528-megawatt facility, which has three coal-fired units and one unit fired by oil or natural gas, had been in the company’s portfolio since 2005.
It divested the Kincaid and Elwood power stations in Illinois at the same time.
Last September Dominion announced it was exiting the merchant coal-fired generation after a business rethink.
The company said it would invest proceeds in its regulated businesses and reduce debt needs.
