Drolet’s former roles include as president and chief executive officer of Ontario Hydro International, managing director of American Electric Power in Canada and president of Canadian Energy Opportunities.
He has also been with DTE Energy Technologies as its head of international business for distributed generation products and most recently worked globally on renewable projects.
In a statement on Tuesday Drolet said he looked forward to helping MicroCoal expand.
“Coal plays a vital role in electricity generation worldwide,” Drolet commented.
“Coal-fired power plants currently fuel 41% of global electricity and the clean coal upgrading technology provided by MicroCoal will help reduce greenhouse gases as well as improve efficiencies for the utility, thereby keeping the cost to consumers as low as possible.”
“I am convinced MicroCoal has an exciting technology and I am looking forward to being an ambassador for the company and assisting its expansion into markets globally.”
MicroCoal CEO and director Slawek Smulewicz said the company was excited to have Drolet on the board.
“Tom has had a 45-year career in many segments of the energy sector and has held senior positions in electrical utilities, technology development, coal, natural gas, nuclear, distributed generation, geothermal and renewables companies.
“The company is excited to work with Tom to tap into his Canadian, US and international networks.
“This relationship will allow the company to expedite its marketing strategy to sell the MicroCoal technology on a global scale.”
