The tragedy occurred on Friday, according to reports.

“It’s confirmed that the two miners died, but it has not been possible to recover [the bodies] because there is a lot of gas,” El Remanso mine chief engineer Luis Rivera told Spanish news agency Efe.

He said the first National Mining Agency team was unable to retrieve the dead, but a second team was enroute.

DGR spokeswoman Sandra Pinzon told Efe that firefighters and other emergency personnel would continue trying to retrieve the bodies.
