Nine rescued from Chinese mine

The explosion took place at Shangyukou Colliery, in China's Shaanxi Province, and initially left 29 miners trapped underground. The nine miners were rescued after being trapped underground for 36 hours.

The mine, with an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons, employs 60 miners. Legal representative of the mine, Guo Zongwen, is under custody, according to Xinhua News Agency.

In related news, World News reported another gas explosion has trapped 12 miners in the south-western Guizhou province at the Nencaochong coal mine while 16 miners were underground. Four miners are reported to have been rescued.
