t an event held in Sydney, Rinehart was named as Chairperson of the Year for the second year running.
“As chairman of Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill Holdings, Mrs Rinehart is persistent, determined, tireless and patriotic,”The CEO Magazine founder and CEO Chris Dutton said.
“This year, Roy Hill was able to secure the largest ever project financing for the development of a land-based mine anywhere in the world.
“The Roy Hill mine is symbolic of this ‘against the tide’ attitude. Her leadership qualities have attracted a committed and passionate team around her and ensured strong and successful negotiations of joint ventures and partnerships.”
It caps off a stellar year for Rinehart, in which also was presented with the Australian Olympic Committee’s Order of Merit and the international Lifetime Achievement Award for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
"I accept this on behalf of my small, hardworking executive team and the many thousands of men and women working in the challenging Australian outback, including those who are building our mega mining project Roy Hill ahead of schedule,” she said.
But Rinehart also once again spoke out on Australia’s falling global competitiveness.
"Every business represented in this room is affected by government-imposed costs and paperwork, and this is making it harder for this country to compete,” she said.
“I know regulations are a problem we have, but I am all just one voice and more need to speak up and tell our leaders in Canberra we need action on cutting regulation and not platitudes."
