From midnight March 31 intrastate travel restrictions were applied stopping travel across region boundaries within the state.

The restrictions, which will be enforced by WA Police, are aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies there will be an interim process for exempted essential services while the longer term process is developed and implemented.

Miners and mineral explorers are considered essential services.

According to AMEC, individuals deemed essential need to have with them at the time of any regional border crossing within WA:

  • A company letter confirming their details, that they are essential, the regions they must travel to or from and, if applicable, regions for transit only. The letter should also have a company phone number that will be answered if WA Police contact the company from a check point to clarify any details'
  • A health declaration saying the person has not travelled outside of WA in the past 14 days, has no COVID-19-related symptoms, and to the best of their knowledge has not been in contact with a confirmed known COVID-19 case; and
  • Individual photo identification such as a driver's licence.

AMEC said the employees also needed to be in uniform.
