The latest mining disaster, a mine flood in central China, took place early Sunday morning and has left 18 miners trapped, Chinese state media reported.
Rescuers told China’s official newsagency, Xinhua, that 62 miners were doing maintenance work when the flood engulfed the Renhe Coal Mine in Yuzhou City and 38 miners managed to escape.
Six miners were rescued.
In a separate incident a mine gas explosion in the early hours of Friday morning has killed 13 miners.
The blast took place in a coal mine in China’s Sichuan Province when 44 miners were underground.
Five miners are still missing after only 26 miners surfaced from the pit after the blast, Xinhua reported.
These deaths accumulated into a disastrous week for Chinese mine safety after 27 people were killed in a mine explosion on Thursday.
