ICMM said the manual was designed to be used by all mining tailings professionals and would educate wider site-based workers as well as executives.
It is hoped the manual will improve general awareness of the importance of integrated tailings management across sustainability disciplines.
The manual aims to promote good governance and engineering practices to improve existing TSFs as well as new developments.
"The training material we have developed from ICMM's Tailings Management Good Practice Guide is a vital tool to help build capacity on tailings management across the industry - particularly as companies focus on implementing the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management across their sites," ICMM chief operating officer Aidan Davy said.
"Companies are implementing the standard across sites in different stages of the mining lifecycle and with varied geographies, commodities and regulatory systems."
The ICMM manual can be customised to an individual site or company to make it more relevant to the needs of workers onsite.
It provides a comprehensive guide to tailings management covering a broad range of technical and engineering elements including improved engineering practices across the whole TSF lifecycle, from conception to operation, and closure and rehabilitation.
