Held in October each year, the Safe Work Australia-initiated National Safe Work Month promotes prioritising health and safety in the workplace to reduce injury, death and disease.
SWA CEO Michelle Baxter said statistics showed every year about 200 workers did not come home from work, and Australia could do better than that.
“We can improve these statistics and this can start with a conversation,” she said.
“The more we talk about work health and safety the more it becomes a normal part of our conversation and everyday work life.”
Baxter said there are many ways to get involved in National Safe Work Month, like attending the hundreds of free events organized across the country by work health and safety regulators in each state and territory.
“I urge everyone to get involved in National Safe Work Month as even simple actions can make a huge difference.”
