A full seven years before its corporate responsibility target is due, Sodexo's Australian arm has revealed it will serve cage free fresh eggs at its Australian operations.
About 9 million eggs annually will be sourced from national eggs supplier Farm Pride Foods, which gets its fresh eggs from farms and local suppliers across the country.
The move is part of Sodexo's Better Tomorrow 2025 strategy.
Sodexo Australia president and chief financial officer Mark Chalmers said as a global company Sodexo had to lead by example in achieving corporate responsibility targets, and he hoped other companies, both large and small, could follow suit.
Farm Pride Foods chief operations officer Bruce De Lacy said Farm Pride Foods' cage free fresh eggs were produced in climate controlled sheds where the hens had access to food, water nest boxes, perches, and were free to move within the shed as they pleased.
He said this gave them more space while protecting them from environmental threats and diseases.
According to De Lacy, Farm Pride Foods is dedicated to providing customers with high quality eggs produced in ethical conditions.
