Beverage is an attorney for mine safety legal firm Jackson Kelly and serves as chair for its occupational safety and health practice group. She stood for election at the association's annual membership meeting, the 100th National Western Mining Conference and Exhibition, held February 12 in Denver.

“As national attention on mine safety has intensified, this has led to legislative and regulatory initiatives that have the potential to greatly shape the industry’s future,” said outgoing CMA chairman Bernard “Barney” Guarnera.

“Laura is well positioned to assume the leadership role and help gain public trust and confidence in the industry’s commitment to mine safety."

The CMA represents the producers of coal, metals and other minerals as well as equipment manufacturers and service firms from Colorado and throughout the West.

The chairman-elect selected to succeed Beverage in 2009 is Climax Molybdenum general manager James Arnold. He currently serves as the GM for the Henderson mine, the world’s largest primary molybdenum producer.
