DBT to purchase Long-Airdox

IN a move of major significance to Australia's longwall mining industry, leading German equipment...

Staff Reporter

Long-Airdox designs, manufactures and markets underground mining equipment from locations around the world. Major products include shearers, AFCs, continuous miners, roof bolters, battery haulers and mobile washing plants. In 1999-2000 the company had 55% of the Australian shearer market.

DBT, a subsidiary of major German-based coal mining group, RAG Coal International, was one of the suitors that looked at Long-Airdox when it was on the market last year. The company was subsequently withdrawn from sale in October after none of the offers met the Marmon Group’s criteria, according to vice president Dave Roberts who spoke to ILN at the time.

“The Long-Airdox product lines will complement DBT’s longwall equipment offerings, and more importantly, enhance and broaden market position by allowing significant expansion into room and pillar equipment,” said Dr Jurgen Stadelhofer, president and CEO of RAG in a press release.

“We know that Long-Airdox will be in good hands,” said Kenneth Dickson, Long-Airdox president, “DBT has an excellent reputation and record of performance that will well serve Long-Airdox customers and employees.”

The inclusion of a shearer will allow DBT to offer a total longwall package.
