MI's Celtic Miner 1500 is a two-tonne hydraulically powered machine designed to tackle small seams in drift mines which would normally be considered too difficult or costly to mine.
The 3m long, 66cm tall machine simultaneously cuts and feeds coal onto an in-built conveyor. MI said the Celtic 1500 is designed for a range of tasks, including tunnelling, debris extraction and rescue work.
MI managing director Gareth Thomas said the Celtic 1500 benefits smaller coal mining operations because it allows them the kind of output normally achieved at much larger mines for a significantly lower capital investment.
The company is now planning to expand its operations, with talks underway that could see its products go international.
