As the quake and associated aftershocks up until yesterday morning were centred far enough north of the basin, there have been no reports of any coal mines in the region being affected.

Queensland emergency services have not received any reports of damage, according to The Australian.

The placement of the quake is considered fortunate, as shallow quakes can cause significant damage as seen in the New Zealand city of Christchurch two months ago, with that quake of a 6.3 magnitude.
