The agreement was reached between the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) and the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals, and Chemicals Importers and Exporters (CCCMC). The CCCMC is one of the most influential industry bodies in China and represents nearly 3000 companies in the metals, mining and chemicals sector, which account for at least 30% of exports in the sector.
In launching the agreement, MCA chief Mitchell Hooke said it was the right time to cement a closer relationship with key players in the fastest-growing market for Australia’s minerals.
MCA said the agreement would provide a framework for closer technical co-operation, especially in the areas of mine safety, clean coal technologies, skills development, and to increase China’s broader adoption of sustainability in minerals operations.
