The two million hour mark was met on August 29 by both Fola workers and the employees of the Peach Orchard preparation plant. The one millionth hour was recorded on December 29, 2009.
The award is not the first this year for the complex, which employs 253 workers combined. It also won the Joseph A Holmes Association safety award and the Mountaineer Guardian Awards from the state of West Virginia.
“Fola was the initial recipient of this award when it was established three years ago and it is a testament to the Fola team's focus on safety that they have now achieved the award for a second time,” chief executive officer J Brett Harvey said.
Company president Nicholas DeIuliis added: “The accomplishments and performance of the Fola team proves not just once, but twice, that this goal is achievable.”
The Fola and Peach Orchard teams will receive the award next month during a special recognition ceremony.
The J Brett Harvey Award, named for the company’s CEO who developed Consol’s Absolute Zero safety program, was introduced in January 2008 and honors sites that have exemplary safety performances.
