Whitehaven said its Tarrawonga, Sunnyside and Rocglen open-cut mines had also resumed production following the inundation of rain.

Despite production recommencing at its open cut mines, Whitehaven said production had not yet resumed to normal levels.

“Coal production is currently underway at Werris Creek and Tarrawonga albeit at a reduced rate while pit water issues are being addressed,” the company said.

Meanwhile coal haulage operations to the Gunnedah wash plant and rail loadout were expected to recommence by the end of the week, subject to completion of road repairs and council approval.

Earlier in the week Whitehaven estimated it would lose at least one week’s production from its Rocglen, Sunnyside, Tarrawonga and Werris Creek mines.

Whitehaven said its Narrabri underground mine was operating at normal production levels.

Whitehaven’s four open cut mines produced at an annual rate of 4 million tonnes per annum of saleable coal in the December 2011 quarter.
