According to The West Australian, Griffin exports about 750,000 tonnes per annum of coal through Kwinana while the Bunbury terminal has planned capacity of 15 million tonnes per annum.

“Griffin Coal will aim to export 10 to 12 million tonnes of coal from the facility, and will allow other interested parties to make use of the remainder of facility capacity,” the newspaper reported.

The coal from Griffin’s Collie operations will be railed 74km north via an existing train line.

Barring any disruptive green opposition, the completion of these plans will help Lanco achieve its goals with the $750 million acquisition of Griffin in 2011 with the Bunbury terminal approved after a three-year planning process.

India was the main destination for Griffin’s export coal before the acquisition.
