West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training spokesperson Leslie Fitzwater confirmed to ILN that the victim was William Vance, 39.
Vance was tightening a water line at Elk Run Coal’s Hunter Peerless operation at about 12.55pm local time when he came into contact with an electrically-charged source.
He was taken to a medical center by helicopter and Fitzwater said he was to be released sometime Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the US Mine Safety and Health Administration told ILN Wednesday that the worker was still suffering tingling in his legs in the hospital Wednesday morning.
State officials were onsite at the mine shortly after the accident.
Hunter Peerless, a room and pillar operation which produces bituminous coal, recorded three non-fatal days lost operator injuries in 2010, when it produced about 659,000 tons.
