With the addition of ICG’s mines, Arch operates 24 mining complexes across all of the major coal basins of the US, making it a top five global coal producer and marketer. Its sales pro forma in 2010 totaled 179 million tons.

Arch has named three group presidents, Ken Cochran, Gary Bennett and Charles Snavely, and has appointed Samuel Kitts as director of operational development. All four will report to operations senior vice president Paul Lang.

Cochran, president of Thunder Basin Coal for six years, will oversee Thunder Basin Coal, Arch Western Bituminous Group, Arch of Wyoming and the Otter Creek development. Reporting to Cochran will be Thunder Basin Coal Company president Keith Williams and Arch Western Bituminous Group president Gene DiClaudio.

Bennett’s responsibility includes the Mountain Laurel, Beckley, Coal-Mac, Cumberland River, Lone Mountain/Powell Mountain and Eastern mining complexes. He will also have responsibility for the eastern engineering, environmental and coal preparation groups at Arch's office in Teays Valley.

Bennett, with Arch for 21 years, previously served as general manager of the Coal-Mac operation.

Snavely will be group president for the Vindex, Patriot, Wolf Run, Flint Ridge, Knott County, Hazard, East Kentucky, and Viper mining complexes as well as the ADDCAR business unit and the longwall development project at Tygart Valley.

A 33-year veteran of the industry, Snavely was most recently ICG's executive vice president of mining operations and previously served as ICG's vice president of planning and acquisitions.

Regional presidents Don Vickers and Gaither Frazier will report to Snavely.

Kitts, who was ICG’s senior vice president of business development and asset management, has been named director of operational development. With 25 years in mining and six years with ICG, he had previously served as senior vice president, planning and organizational development.
