The event is being organised by the AusIMM Illawarra Branch in association with NSW Coal Mine Managers Association, Gas and Coal Outburst Committee and the University of Wollongong.

The theme of day one is Management and Control in Outburst Prone Areas.

The technical program would includes case studies and presentations by eminent speakers from Central Queensland Coalfields, South Coast Coalfields and NSW Department of Mineral Resources, organisers said.

The second day of the colloquium is intended to provide a forum for those involved in strata control (mining engineers, geotechnical engineers, undermanagers, deputies) to share their recent experiences with such systems. The organising committee invites papers on any aspect of strata management systems.

Case studies on the following subjects were sought:

Development of the overall system

Geotechnical design issues

Role of risk assessments

Quality control of installation

Identification of geological hazards

Roof and rib support systems

Training

Monitoring
