Solid Energy said the levels were related to a ventilation problem.

Since the evacuation mining has been halted with a small team entering the mine yesterday to provide extra ventilation, Associated Press reported.

Spring Creek was the replacement for Solid Energy's Strongman 2 Mine, which closed in August 2003. Annual production is estimated to be up to 800,000 tonnes.
