Goyal reportedly said on Monday that 26 out of 100 coal-fired power stations in the country are facing “super-critical” situations, with less than four days of stockpiled coal.
“In order to ensure adequate availability of coal, Coal India Limited has been impressed upon to enhance production of domestic coal in the country and power utilities have also been advised to enhance imports of coal," Goyal said, according to the Reuters report.
The minister said the country’s power plants needed 551.6 million tonnes for the year ending March 30, while supply could be limited to 466.89Mt for this period.
