According to chairperson Dr Pierre Mousset-Jones, about 170 industry professionals are expected to convene at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada for the three-day event, commencing June 9.
"Since its inception in 1982, the US Mine Ventilation Symposium has become a major venue for the presentation of technical papers in the mine and tunnel ventilation field," the organisers said.
"The meetings bring together ventilation professionals from around the world…[and] provide a forum for the exchange of information on technical and practical issues relevant to ventilation engineers and mine managers.
"The symposium offers an excellent opportunity for ventilation engineers, professionals and students to gather for a valuable exchange of information and professional development."
Topic areas include ventilation planning, heat and humidity and spontaneous combustion, the MINER Act and sealing, numerical modelling, coal mine methane, mine dust, tunnel ventilation and mine fans, diesel emissions control, mine fires, ventilation design and monitoring.
Several free short courses will also be held June 7, 8 and 12, the days before and just after the symposium.
Saturday's sessions is entitled "Psychrometry, Mine Heat Loads and Climate, and Mine Cooling and Refrigeration", Sunday's offerings are on the topics of respirable dust control, heat illness and heat stress measurement, and strategies and technologies for diesel particulate matter and gas exposure reduction. Thursday's session is on egress and entrapment in underground hard rock mines.
Post-symposium professional field trips to mining operations in eastern Nevada, Utah and Wyoming are also on the schedule, including two active longwalls, FMC’s trona mine in Wyoming and Canyon Fuel's Skyline coal operation in Utah.
Registrations are still being accepted for the symposium, and the event's committee noted that the symposium, its optional workshops and technical field trips provide contact hours that could qualify for PDH for PE and other professional certifications.
