During the year Korean steel company POSCO, power company Korea Electric Power and resource company Kores acquired chunks of the coal explorer.

Cockatoo increased its market capitalisation more than 500% from $A56.6 million at June 30, 2007 to $A354.5 million this year due to an increase in its share price and the number of shares on issue.

Movements during the year included Cockatoo acquiring coal tenements in the Surat, Tarong and Clarence basins and the acquisition of Metallica Minerals subsidiaries SE Qld Coal and SE Qld Energy.
