The COAL Conference offers a regular forum for the exchange of ideas between mine operators, engineers and researchers in the underground coal mining industry.
A half-day workshop is organised for the afternoon of February 4, by the NSW Department of Mineral Resources to deal with issues related to 'coal mine subsidence and surface environmental impacts'.
There will be 22 papers to be presented in the two day conference on February 5 and 6. Papers are of diverse topics embracing the planning of a modern high production mine to issues relate to planning for mine closures.
A paper on a recently developed flexible stopping membrane capable of withstanding explosion pressures in excess of 14 kPa (2 psi) will be presented on the first day of the conference.
The Organising Committee would welcome increased participation in the conference.
The Conference is jointly organised by The Illawarra Branch of The AusIMM, Mine Managers Association of Australia, and The University of Wollongong.
