SES holds the licence for the U-GAS gasification technology, which is already in operation producing syngas from high ash coal in China’s Shandong Province.
Coalworks said the technology was ideal for sub-bituminous coal like that found at Oaklands.
The company plans to convert the coal to gasoline via a coal-to-liquids plant. The methanol can then be further synthesised into ultra-low sulfur gasoline.
SES will conduct a feasibility study for the CTL plant and, if successful, Coalworks and SES will enter a licence agreement to use U-GAS at Oaklands. SES will also help in the construction and operation of the plant.
Coalworks owns 100% of the Oaklands project and is carrying out a feasibility study into a coal mine on the site.
Coalworks was trading down 3.23% at 30c mid-morning today.
