Hunter Valley coal chain export producers are aiming to transport a total of 84.3 million tonnes for the calendar year. The record equates to 102Mt per annum, annualised.

Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS), which operates Newcastle's coal loading terminals, welcomed the news of the record coal haulage result, ABC News reported.

PWCS general manager John Barbagello attributed the result to good cooperation between coal companies, rail organisations and PWCS.

Barbagello warned that a number of key strategic investments were still needed to continue to maximise throughput for all coal producers.

ARTC has pledged to spend $152 million in five years on the Hunter lines, which will include a new flyover onto Kooragang Island while PWCS plans to lift capacity from 80Mt a year to 102Mt by 2008.
