Sandvik says its new MEC roller range features a roller tube that is mechanically located and fixed to the end cap to eliminate the risk of separation, while the end cap is also non-metallic to resist corrosion and weathering.
The range is of identical dimensions to standard rollers of the same diameter and bearing combination but there is also a lightweight aluminium tubing option to reduce manual handling risks.
A shell-to-end cap transition design is in place to help protect the belting while Sandvik said its sealing system would provide years of trouble-free operation with low roller drag.
“This new range is ideally suited for applications requiring a corrosion-resistant roller that has low noise characteristics,” said Sandvik product line manager for conveyor components Chris Mitchell.
“Typical applications include ports, coal handling prep plants and installations located close to populated areas or that operate in corrosive environments.”
Mitchell said the new unique design provided an excellent low-noise roller without the need for machining or dynamic balancing.
“Additional noise and vibration reduction has been achieved by using Sandvik’s high quality conveyor tube, with its exacting dimensional accuracy, especially in the areas of wall thickness, roundness and straightness,” Mitchell said.
He said the finite element analysis and testing process ensured the finished roller was able to withstand all of the loads and stresses that are experienced with traditional welded steel rollers.
“In addition, the end cap is manufactured from a material that has exceptional mechanical and fatigue life characteristics, and which is UV and ozone resistant so it can withstand years of service in the harshest of environments,” he said.
The MEC roller range is under manufacture at the company’s Mackay factory in Queensland.
