York Mining preferred bidder for Wallarah assets

BHP Billiton have selected York Mining as the preferred bidder for the Wallarah Joint Venture.

Owned by subsidiary Coal Operations Australia, the assets have been on the market since February this year. COAL holds an 80% interest in the assets, which include the Moonee longwall mine, Catherine Hill Bay coal preparation plant and ship loading jetty, self-discharging vessel MV Wallarah, Chain Valley colliery and Wallarah mine, currently under care and maintenance.

The remaining 20% is owned by Nissho Iwai Corp.

York Mining owns and operates the 1.3Mtpa New Wallsend longwall mine, 18km west of Newcastle.
