The seven areas will be awarded under the state’s first-ever non-cash tender process with the government awarding permits to the coal explorers with the best plans and work programs on offer.
“This new framework for coal exploration permits allows for the assessment and comparison of potential tenderers, ensuring land is allocated to those most able and committed to effectively explore for potential resources,” Queensland Natural Resources and Mines Minister Andrew Cripps told the Mining 2013 Convention in Brisbane.
He said department officers will assess applications for the land based on the competiveness of the submitted work plans.
“Applicants will be assessed according to their proposed work program and the associated technical and financial capability to meet that work program.” Cripps said.
The government said interested parties have until 2:30pm on March 5, 2014, to lodge their tender applications.
